Honeymoon
We went to Mexico for our honeymoon, to the incredibly romantic resort of El Dorado Seaside Suites, near Cancun. The resort is small & intimate, so you see familiar faces instead of being completely lost in a crowd of strangers - there were less than 300 people there when we arrived.
We had an absolutely fantastic time while we were out there, the weather was wonderfully warm and the resort was gorgeous. The staff were amazingly helpful and the service was outstanding. It was a very relaxing holiday!
The entertainment and facilities at EDSS were wonderful. We had great fun snorkelling in the sea at the resort, and of course lounging by the pool! It was very surreal to see the resort decorated for Christmas when the sky was blue and the sun was shining! Other than lying around in the sun, we played giant chess, experienced tequila (many different tequilas, for that matter!), swung in hammocks, played ping pong, luxuriated in our huge jacuzzi, and ate an awful lot of the 5 star cuisine! I (Zoe) read about 10 books while we were there, and we even had time to chill in our room with a film now and again (one of our favourite things to do in any country!). James even learnt to do handstands in the pool!
We went on two trips whilst on honeymoon; we went to the natural aquarium Xel-Ha to do some snorkelling, and we went on pirate ship adventure with the Captain Hook trip!
Xel-Ha was fantastic - absolutely beautiful. We have uploaded some postcards showing the lagoon to the gallery, but took along two waterproof disposable cameras which will be developed soon. I have no idea how many different species of fish we saw - just that we spent about 7 hours snorkelling and that they were amazing colours and shapes! The park was really pretty and it was a fantastic deal, we just paid our entrance fee and everything inside the resort was free - including all the food and drinks, and the equipment!
The Captain Hook trip was equally fun, in a different way! The ships sailed out of Cancun, the city we flew to when we came to Mexico - this was an hour or two from the resort. The less said about the transport the better I think, lets just leave it to 'we got a refund for that cost and a box of chocolate'! The trip itself was great fun, with a Lobster and Steak dinner, all drinks included, and fun, games and music on board. There was a pirate battle between the two ships, with the tourists waving our flags as much as possible to encourage our pirate crew (who also happened to be our waiters)! It was a very very cheesy evening but anybody who knows James & I will know that we love that kind of thing!
We also went shopping to Playa Del Carmen, which was an adventure in itself! We spent a morning walking along 5th Avenue, the main tourist/shopping street in Playa. As you walk along past the shops selling souvenirs, hammocks, etc, their owners heckle you in the hopes that you will come into their shop and buy something. "Hello honeymooners, no charge to look, come and see my necklaces" and so on and so on! Once inside you are presented with racks of jewellery, and everything imaginable, none of which have prices. Unfortunately neither James nor I were very good at haggling as we are both rather shy! It was an experience though :)
All in all, it was a fantastic honeymoon! And of course, thanks must go to Jennie & Andrew for picking us up from the airport at 7am on Christmas morning!!
